Pascal Struijk is not good enough to play for Tottenham amid new links with the Leeds United defender, Paul Robinson has said.
Ange Postecoglou’s side have been credited with interest in the 25-year-old centre-back, as per CaughtOffside, with £25million said to be enough to strike a deal.
Spurs are currently suffering from an injury crisis, with Ben Davies joining star duo Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero in the treatment room, but the Lilywhites have been told to avoid the Leeds man.
Speaking to MOT Leeds News [20 December], Robinson said: “12 months ago, he couldn’t even get into the Leeds squad and now, he’s been captain and an integral part of the squad.
“From a Tottenham point of view, I don’t think he’s good enough for that level. He wasn’t good enough to get into the Leeds side in the Premier League and was receiving a lot of criticism as Leeds were conceding a lot of goals.
“He’s not that level so I’d be surprised if he went to a Premier League team.”
Tottenham to avoid Pascal Struijk despite current injury crisis?
It would be quite a surprise if Postecoglou was not to push for a new defensive signing during the January transfer window, but it is clear that Struijk is not the answer.
That is according to Robinson, at least, who has watched the player first-hand over the last few seasons and has made his mind up about the Dutchman.
Leeds and Struijk could very much be playing Premier League football next season, with Daniel Farke’s side currently sitting 2nd in the Championship table nearly halfway through the campaign.
The defender already has Premier League experience and, without sounding too harsh, it was a horrendous season for him and the entire squad at Elland Road.
Daniel Levy is a master when it comes to finding new avenues to make money, and should Spurs need a new centre-back signing in January, he should be able to splash much more than £25million on a deal.
In other Tottenham news, Daniel Levy could sack Ange Postecoglou amid fan-led protests at Hotspur Way.
