Confirmed: Everton Women star becomes third WSL player to suffer ACL injury in last two weeks

Everton confirmed that Aurora Galli has suffered an ACL injury v Brighton Women and will undergo rehab at Finch Farm.

The Guardian reported on 25 September the Toffees Women’s midfielder was the third WSL player in the last two weeks to suffer the same injury.

The other two were Chelsea midfielder Sophie Ingle and Crystal Palace full-back Jorja Fox.

The club statement read: “A scan this week confirmed Galli’s injury and the 27-year-old will now undergo rehabilitation at Finch Farm under the care of Everton’s medical team. Everyone at Everton is thinking of Yaya [Galli] and wishes her all the best with her recovery.”

Aurora Galli will be a huge miss for Everton

The Italy international was a key player in midfield for Brian Sorensen’s side and her absence will surely hurt the team.

Since moving to Merseyside from Juventus back in 2021, she has played most games when fit for the Toffees.

However, an ACL rupture means that she won’t return for the next nine months, virtually ending her season.

ACL injuries are more prevalent in women and this has been evident from the data even from the last two weeks.

Sorensen will now have to find a way to cope with her absence and will not be able to sign new players either with the window closed.

Hopefully, this does not impact the team too much and they can use this setback to give one of the youth or fringe players a chance.

In other Everton news, the Friedkin Group have made the decision on sacking Sean Dyche and talks have been opened with a league-winning manager.
