Sean Dyche has revealed he’s already spoken to Dominic Calvert-Lewin about his performance and consistency for Everton this season.
The striker has only scored two goals so far this term despite starting all nine of the Toffees’ Premier League games.
Speaking to the media, in quotes relayed by The Mirror (31 October), Dyche has shared his verdict on Calvert-Lewin’s recent form.
“He’s working hard at his game and finding that streak which brought him goals previously. He hasn’t scored regularly for a while and getting back in that zone can come,” he said.
“We speak about it endlessly as managers, finding a goal can get it started when being in the right area hits you and goes in.
“I’ve spoken to him about performances, the level of the consistency and trying to find it. Goals will come if you keep making sure you’re playing well and running hard, goals will come.”
Everton need Dominic Calvert-Lewin to extend his Goodison Park stay
One of the key talking points that have emerged from Everton’s camp this season is where the future of Calvert-Lewin lies.
The striker’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season and while the Toffees may have the likes of Beto and Armando Broja within their ranks to cover the number nine role, neither will likely have the impact the Englishman does on the team.
Everton and Calvert-Lewin have already entered discussions to extend his stay and the fact the striker said he wants to become Everton’s top Premier League scorer of all time, shows where his heart most likely lies.
Most fans would agree that extending the Englishman’s Goodison Park stay is the best course of action due to the impact he’s had on the club in his eight years on Merseyside.
There’s still a fair few months until his contract expires of course which leaves the attacker plenty of time to decide what he wants to do.
But, with the number of clubs that have shown an interest in acquiring his services already [TEAMtalk, 24 October], nothing is yet set in stone.
In other Everton news, Dan Friedkin will have to pay an extra £1.6million-year after new Government news.
