Newcastle ace Dan Burn admits that if Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s penalty had been given by the referee for Everton, it’s unlikely that it would have been overturned.

The game between the Magpies and the Toffees finished 0-0 but it wasn’t without drama.

The striker reacted to a parried shot in the 66th minute from Nick Pope and went to put the final touch on the ball to get it into the back of the net but, instead, he was met by Burn who seemingly shoved the attacker to the ground.

Speaking to Sky Sports (5 October, 19:41pm), Burn shared his verdict on whether the challenge was a penalty or not.

“I think it was probably one of them that if the referee gives it, it probably doesn’t get overturned. I felt Dominic kicked me but I’ve not seen it back,” he said.

“There’s definitely still more to come. It’s a sign of a good team when you’re not playing well but still picking up results”.

Everton should have had a penalty v Newcastle

As aforementioned, despite the game ending as a 0-0 draw, it felt like there were plenty of moments during the clash that made supporters hold their breath.

Newcastle actually had a penalty awarded in the 35th minute after James Tarkowksi decided to drag Sandro Tonali to the floor in an “absolutely ridiculous” moment.

Anthony Gordon was the man chosen to step up to the spot and while many expected him to bag the penalty and send Newcastle 1-0 up, Jordan Pickford was there to save the day.

This was met by the elation of Everton’s supporters alongside Abdoulaye Doucoure who was pictured running towards the ex-Toffees man and laughing in his face.

There’s obviously still a sour taste left in the mouths of those at Everton after the winger chose to exit the club and join the Magpies.

And, although the Toffees’ season thus far hasn’t been the best their last two games have shown real improvement, which makes you wonder if things can get even better than what they already are.
