Jamie O’Hara has been left questioning how Everton didn’t get a penalty in their 0-0 draw against Newcastle after Dan Burn took out Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Newcastle were awarded a penalty in the 35th minute after James Tarkwoski dragged Sandro Tonali to the floor and somehow, Calvert-Lewin was deemed to have kicked Burn in the leg rather than it being the other way around, resulting in no penalty being awarded for the Toffees.

Writing via his personal X account (5 October), ex-Tottenham midfielder O’Hara claimed the decision to not give the Blues a penalty was an appalling one.

“One of the worst refereeing decisions I’ve ever seen in the Everton game, absolute stonewall penalty,” he wrote.

Although Everton didn’t manage to leave Goodison Park with all three points to their name, there’s no doubt that they will be happy with getting a point from the clash.

The absence of Jarrad Branthwaite due to injury was a cause for concern for both fans and pundits alike, especially after his impact during the Crystal Palace win.

However, since they managed to grab their first win of the Premier League campaign against the Eagles, it’s felt like Sean Dyche’s men have figured out how to put their best assets to work.

While Tarkowski’s takedown of Tonali could have resulted in things ending badly for the Merseyside outfit, Jordan Pickford was fortunately there to save the day.

It’s still early days in the season of course so there’s still plenty of time for things to change as we get later into the campaign.

But for now, as long as Dyche continues to “get things right” on the pitch, it feels as if his job is safe, despite the recent scrutiny he’s found himself under.

In other Everton news, Abdoulaye Docure was spotted mocking Anthony Gordon after his penalty miss.
