Bayern Munich chief speaks out on Arsenal and Man City target Jamal Musiala’s future
The Germany star is wanted in the Premier League.
Bayern Munich director of sport Max Eberl says contract negotiations are ongoing with Jamal Musiala and he is ‘very confident’ over a positive resolution.
The 21-year-old who came through the youth ranks at Chelsea, has been a big part of the Bayern squad since he became their youngest ever Bundesliga player in 2020.
The German giants certainly want to keep hold of the midfielder but there is interest in him from the Premier League.
Musiala has been touted as a long-term replacement for Manchester City superstar Kevin De Bruyne, while Arsenal have also been linked with the Germany international.
His contract expires in 2026, so there is no immediate worry for Bayern, but Eberl says talks are underway and he is confident the club will keep hold of one of their star players.
‘There was not just one meeting, we’re in talks. I’m very confident. Something is happening here and Jamal is noticing that too,’ said Eberl.
‘He’s an exceptional player, and alongside Josh [Kimmich] and a few others he should become a face of Bayern. We told the player that too. And now we are looking at how we can reach an agreement. I’m an optimist and I see no reason why he should leave Bayern.’
Musiala left the door open to a possible move when speaking about his future, saying he is very content at Bayern but things can change at rapid pace.
‘I’m very happy at FC Bayern and fully focused on our goals,’ Musiala told Welt Am Sonntag. ‘Playing abroad like [Jude] Bellingham? I’m not thinking about where I will be in five years. Things can always change quickly in the world of football.’
There was surprise when Musiala started on the bench against Aston Villa in the Champions League on Wednesday, but Bayern boss Vincent Kompany said it was simply a fitness issue.
Speaking about Musiala’s absence before the 1-0 defeat, Kompany told DAZN: ‘We have to look at the workload a bit. The game against Leverkusen took a lot of energy.
‘If we feel that someone is not fresh, then we have the squad for that. Jamal has not felt so fit in the last two days. He can still come off the bench.’
