VAR made a big mistake in 0-0 draw at Goodison Park, Everton will surely feel gutted

Everton and Brentford played out an entertaining 0-0 draw at Goodison Park on Saturday.

36 shots were taken between both sides, there was a red card for Christian Norgaard, and also a remarkable show of reflexes from Mark Flekken to deny Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The result leaves Everton 15th in the Premier League – while Brentford sit 11th.

However, Everton will surely be kicking themselves after VAR and Chris Kavanagh made a huge mistake.

Everton missed a huge opportunity in 0-0 draw against Brentford

Everton won’t get many more chances to play against ten men for over 45 minutes in the Premier League this season, as the Toffees experienced on Saturday thanks to a glaring error from those in the VAR booth.

Somehow, Kavanagh was convinced to show Norgaard a straight red card, despite not even blowing for a foul initially, with the Denmark international penalised for simply trying to prod the ball home.

It was there to be won, and had the Brentford No.6 won his challenge, it would have most likely resulted in a goal for the Bees, so he had every right to contest Pickford.

Unfortunately, Norgaard caught the England international instead of the ball, but there is no way the 30-year-old should have been dismissed for simply going into a 50/50 challenge with a goal on the line.

Brentford – who want Everton target Amir Richardson – agree, as the Bees will appeal the dismissal.

Nevertheless, the decision was made, although Everton will feel like the biggest losers, having failed to capitalise on playing against ten men for almost an hour following the 41st minute red card.

As you can see, the Toffees face Manchester United at Old Trafford next up in the Premier League, before clashes against Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City follow after a visit from Wolves.

Therefore, unless Everton – who want Arthur Melo – show more fight than they did against the Bees, it is not outlandish to think the Toffees could be in the relegation zone on Christmas Day.
