Liverpool fans make their feelings clear on 'hopeless' Darwin Nunez despite winning at Southampton
Another pretty miserable display from the Uruguayan striker
Darwin Nunez has been a bit of a marmite player ever since he made the move to Liverpool but it looks like some fans are finally getting sick of the Uruguayan striker.
Nunez was handed a start by Arne Slot as Liverpool saw off Southampton 3-2, winning thanks to two late goals from Mohamed Salah.
For Nunez, though, it was another day to forget. The striker offered little in front of goal, spent time arguing with Jack Stephens and the officials, and never looked like scoring again.
Indeed, even Jamie Carragher questioned Arne Slot for taking Cody Gakpo off over Nunez on the hour mark, such was his poor performance level.
And over on social media platform X, it looks like Liverpool fans are getting a bit sick of Nunez as well.
Liverpool fans send clear message about Darwin Nunez after Southampton performance
For Liverpool fans, time seems to be ticking when it comes to Nunez and if this ends up being another season without proving himself in front of goal, then there could be calls for him to replaced come the summer.
Indeed, the opinion over on X seems to unanimous.
Rather worryingly for Nunez, one Man United fan even chipped in, suggesting he was no better than Reds flop Andy Carroll.
Another Reds fan, @DeanThomas, also claimed that Nunez simply doesn’t fit Slot’s system.
“You won’t ever convince me slot rates Darwin Nunez btw”
Following on the negative trend, another supporter, @Darwintime9, claimed that Gakpo and Nunez just get in each other’s way.
“Me thinks Gakpo and Nunez shouldn’t be playing together. Why start a number 9 when your winger is always acting like the striker”
While another Liverpool suggested the Reds sell him before it’s too late.
It seems, then, that Nunez has long way to go before he proves himself to the Liverpool faithful.
Indeed, even those from other clubs’ fanbases are noticing, with one Arsenal fan, @gooner145 suggesting the striker’s only contribution was to fall on the floor.
“The only contribution Darwin Nunez made during his 98 minutes was to throw himself on the floor in the penalty area, roll around holding his untouched face. What an embarrassment he is!”
