Everton are looking to take a page from the Arsenal playbook and recruit a first-team performance analyst with a specific focus on set-piece analysis.
The Gunners have established themselves as the most effective set-piece takers in Europe, with set-piece coach Nicolas Jover at the centre of attention for his training-ground routines paying off in the Premier League and Champions League.
Everton have themselves scored a fair share of goals from corner-kicks and free-kicks, but the club clearly want to improve further in this department.
The club have posted a job advertisement for the role as shared by Training Ground Guru [8 October], and will look to make an appointment swiftly as hopefuls have just two weeks to apply.
Everton can go toe-to-toe with Arsenal for set-piece crown
Given all the criticism Sean Dyche has received for his side’s performances this season, his ability to turn his Everton squad into a serious threat from set-pieces is unquestionable.
With Dwight McNeil enjoying prolific form as of late, and the Blues becoming more regular goalscorers from open play in the Premier League, reaffirming their reputation as one of the best set-piece converters in England will surely result in a surge up the league table and put daylight between themselves and the relegation zone.
Arsenal have utilised their unique set-piece routines to great effect in the league this season, particularly in the 1-0 win against Tottenham and in the 2-2 draw with Manchester City.
After the two-week hiatus following the international break, the Toffees will have Jarrad Branthwaite ready to return against Ipswich Town [Liverpool World], and his aerial presence alongside James Tarkowski would be a dream for any set-piece coach to work with, not to mention 6ft 4in summer signing Jake O’Brien.
The Blues need every possible advantage on the football pitch to climb the Premier League table, given the current squad are likely to struggle against top opposition, and more efficiency from dead-ball situations will provide the side a much-needed edge.
In other Everton news, the Blues’ final league position has been predicted by a Super Computer.
