'Interesting' - Darren Bent makes new Dyche claim ahead of Everton takeover

Darren Bent has insisted Sean Dyche “deserves respect” for taking on such a challenge at Everton.

Dyche will hope to have the backing of the incoming ownership at Goodison Park, the Friedkin Group, with the club looking to appoint first-team staff to work with the manager.

The former Burnley manager has so far successfully navigated two survival battles with the Toffees and is beginning to recover from a shocking start to the current campaign.

Former Premier League striker Bent, speaking live on talkSPORT [8 October, 17:46], said: “Fair play to him, it’s a tough job there.

“It’ll be interesting to see what happens when these new owners come in. There’s been a lot of talk about it. He deserves respect.”

Dyche has recently admitted [5 October] that his appointment at Everton was initially to be a safe pair of hands in a difficult situation, rather than for the “dreams” of the club’s future glory.

Within that remit, he has been a success – and it is crucial survival at the very least is delivered a third time to avoid Bramley-Moore Dock hosting Championship fixtures in its inaugural season.

The future is certainly looking far less bleak than at the beginning of the season, with a rollercoaster situation involving John Textor circling the club while defeats plagued the team on the field.

If Dyche keeps Everton on an upward trajectory of form deeper into the campaign, there is every chance Friedkin will maintain the belief that he remains the right man.

If the Toffees can build stability and provide resources, it will be intriguing to see Dyche’s capabilities under expectations of higher aims for the club.
