Everton are determined to keep Jarrad Branthwaite despite interest from other clubs, according to Chris Beesley.
The Liverpool Echo journalist reported on Wednesday (July 17) that the Toffees won’t sell the centre-back cheaply and plan to have him next season unless they receive a “mega offer”.
And, with top defenders like Harry Maguire and Wesley Fofana fetching fees around £80million, Everton see Branthwaite in the same league.
Beesley said: “Everton have insisted they will not be bullied into selling Branthwaite on the cheap and they are actively planning on having him with them next season unless a mega offer comes in.”
Jarrad Branthwaite might end up staying at Everton
Everton’s stance on Branthwaite looks stronger than ever, especially after Manchester United agreed to sign Leny Yoro for up to £62million [The Athletic, July 17].
Despite United’s interest and a couple of rejected bids, the Toffees have held firm, showing their determination to keep Branthwaite.
Compared to Yoro, Branthwaite has more experience, having successfully handled top Premier League strikers last season after a great loan spell at PSV Eindhoven.
Everton’s refusal to be bullied into a sale, unless a mega offer comes in, shows they value Branthwaite highly and plan to have him stay for the next season.
The fee paid for Yoro by United also indicates that Sean Dyche’s side can expect to get more than £60million for Branthwaite.
Keeping hold of Branthwaite would be a huge boost for the Toffees ahead of the new season, especially given the impending takeover of the club from Dan Friedkin is giving genuine hope that the tide is turning on the blue half of Merseyside.
In other Everton news, a Toffees shareholder has reacted to a claim of Gareth Southgate potentially taking over the reins from Sean Dyche.
