Alan Brazil still thinks Everton have what it takes to avoid Premier League relegation this season.
The Toffees drew 1-1 against Fulham at Goodison Park last time out and now find themselves 16th in the Premier League ahead of their trip to Southampton on Saturday.
Speaking live on talkSPORT [1 November, 08:09am] Brazil and Ray Parlour shared their thoughts on the Toffees’ performance against the Cottagers.
“I still think Everton stay up but amazingly Ipswich couldn’t put a glove on them at Portman Road and yet again, against Fulham, they were tentative,” Brazil said.
Parlour replied: “They’re a decent side though Fulham.”
This then sparked a reply from Brazil who said: “Yeah [Fulham] are a good side and maybe that’s where I’ve gone wrong, maybe I should be giving Fulham credit.
“But Everton were poor for me.”
Sean Dyche needs to get Everton firing again
The Toffees only just managed to extend their unbeaten streak to five games across all competitions thanks to Beto’s 94th-minute winner against Marco Silva’s men on Saturday (26 October).
While they came away from the clash with a point, it felt like Dyche’s men didn’t play anywhere near as well as they did when they beat Ipswich 2-0 on 19 October.
Granted, Fulham are a far better side quality-wise than the Tractor Boys are, but, it doesn’t feel like there should have been as much of a difference in their performance as there was.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s form has been under some major scrutiny recently with Dyche admitting to having behind-the-scenes talks with the striker about his poor performances.
If Everton want to avoid being drawn into yet another Premier League relegation battle this season, they’re going to have to step things up and find a way to get the ball into the back of the net consistently.
