'Could be the end' - Journalist shares scenario that could get Clement sacked at Rangers

Robert Grieve believes Philippe Clement’s days at Rangers are numbered with their League Cup final as a potential end in sight.

The Gers have been well off where they would’ve hoped to be performing this season and sit in third place in the table, 11 points off the top spot, leading to plenty of pressure on Clement at Ibrox.

Furthermore, with two league games ahead of their League Cup final against Celtic on 15 December, supporters will be eager to see convincing signs that their form can be fixed as they look towards this game at Hampden Park.

Grieve feels as though the result of this game could be the decider over the Belgian’s future as he said on The Scottish Sun Sport’s Coffee Club [4 December, 08m 48s]: “It feels as though he’s kind of on the cusp of kind of back-to-back defeats, I think he’s in bother. But the League Cup final could be the end.”

Philippe Clement’s days at Rangers are numbered

As their poor form continues in the league, the pressure placed on Clement remains something that is being constantly discussed at Ibrox.

Despite a brilliant 4-1 win against Nice in the Europa League, the Gers struggled to back this up in league action with an underwhelming 1-0 win against St Johnstone on Sunday [1 December], which came via an own goal scored by their opponents.

Therefore, it is still yet to be seen whether the 50-year-old can take them forward in the long term and improve their form.

Their upcoming fixtures involve two Scottish Premiership games and a Europa League contest before they face rivals Celtic in the League Cup final, meaning the pressure on the boss remains as high as ever over the next two weeks as these games take place.

It may well depend on their league results in the interim, but if Rangers struggle to look convincing in their upcoming games and then lose in the Old Firm derby, it would not be surprising to see that mark the end of the road for Clement at Ibrox in a game that means so much to the supporters.
