'Credit to him': Ange Postecoglou says Tottenham have a wonderkid who's actually blown him away recently

Heading into Tottenham Hotspur’s clash against Manchester United in the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup, Ange Postecoglou must be in high spirits.

Spurs’ 5-0 victory against Southampton was one that would have put smiles on the faces of the players, who would themselves have been irate with how inconsistent their performances have been this campaign.

Ahead of the much-awaited contest, Ange Postecoglou had his say on multiple topics.

Postecoglou hinted Yves Bissouma could start against Manchester United due to the fact that Lucas Bergvall was exhausted after starting against Southampton.

Ange Postecoglou had his say on Destiny Udogie by stating that if he plays against United, he will be rested against Liverpool and vice-versa as the Italian defender is yet to have been given a breather.

With Archie Gray playing as a centre-back recently, the former Celtic boss was quizzed about his thoughts on how the 18-year-old has performed.

Ange Postecoglou says Archie Gray has played “really well” at centre-back

The Tottenham tactician was full of praise for Gray’s performances out of position, considering he is a holding midfielder by trade.

Ange Postecoglou said via BeanymanSports: “He’s done really well. It’s a credit to him, he’s 18 years old, asked to play in a position he’s probably never played before in the toughest competition in the world.”

“Plus in Europe, plus for multiple games, sometimes, in a off-game, you go okay, he can fill in. He hasn’t missed a beat, it’s brilliant to watch.”

“All the lads have obviously helped him in that sense, I mean, Radu [Radgusin], he’s kind of the experienced one, he’s got Radu and Destiny [Udogie], who are 22 on either side of him.”

Ange Postecoglou added: “Archie’s done really well, his defending has been really solid, he’s obviously got the quality on the ball and just the way he’s handled us asking him to do a really big job, like I said, not just for a one-off game, he’s handed it brilliantly.”

Jermaine Beckford described the Englishman as a “phenomenal player” via Leeds Live and since signing for the Lilywhites, he has proven that he is a serious young talent.

Heung-min Son lauded Archie Gray as well after his latest display against the Saints.

Heung-min Son was asked to mentor Gray by Joe Rodon, a responsibility he seems to be relishing.

Could Archie Gray start for Tottenham against Manchester United?

Ange Postecoglou’s latest injury update involved him confirming that both Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero will only return to full fitness next year.

Ben Davies, however, is expected to recover from his latest injury by next week.

With that being the case, it seems like Gray will have to be thrown into the deep end against Manchester United, as he could start at the heart of Tottenham’s defence alongside Dragusin.

As Ange Postecoglou stated, the teenager has dealt admirably with the pressure of playing in an unfamiliar position and he could well be up for the challenge of doing so against the Red Devils as well.

If Gray manages to perform and helps Spurs reach the semi-final of the Carabao Cup, he will become an instant fan favourite within the fanbase.
