Crystal Palace takeover: Keith Wyness opens up on John Textor trouble

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted the uncertainty around John Textor’s Eagle Football company is not a real problem for Crystal Palace.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs –

The uncertainty comes with Eagle Football now 16 weeks overdue in providing its accounts for the latest financial year.

Textor had been keen to sell his 45% Palace stake and buy Everton but has been gazumped in that process by The Friedkin Group, who are close to taking full control at Goodison Park.

Reports in August suggested the US billionaire was preparing to float Eagle on the New York Stock Exchange at a valuation of more than $2billion.

Textor also owns French giants Lyon, Botafogo in Brazil, RW Molenbeek in Belgium and FC Florida.

Textor trouble is not a problem for Crystal Palace, says Wyness

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “Crystal Palace haven’t had a great start.

“But this is more of a problem for John Textor than Palace.

“I don’t know what he’s up to with his financial engineering, but it does seem that his initial public offering for Eagle Football hasn’t gone forward.

“That’s why he is late releasing the figures for this year, and it’s quite concerning for Eagle.

“There’s now a big spotlight on what he’s trying to do.

“Lyon is a big-profile club who are in the group alongside Palace. He was making a lot of noise about Everton just weeks ago but it seems he doesn’t have the resources, he hasn’t sold his shares in Palace.

“But at the moment – the silence isn’t good for Textor.”
