Dan Bardell: Archie Gray to take spot of one Tottenham player already

Dan Bardell has suggested that new signing Archie Gray will take Oliver Skipp’s place in the Tottenham squad ahead of the new season.

Spurs completed the signing of Archie Gray in a deal worth up to £40million with Joe Rodon going the other way to join Leeds United for £10m. [Graham Smyth].

A report from Football London (29 June) suggested that Daniel Farke could be interested in also signing Skipp this summer, a player he had on loan during his time as Norwich City boss.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell believes that Skipp is going to fall even further down the pecking order following the arrival of Gray, whose versatility is a big plus for the 18-year-old.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Bardell said: “I actually think he’ll play more regularly than people imagine.

It’s interesting because he played a lot of football at right-back and when Spurs are missing their full-backs they found it hard to find someone to do what they do.

Archie Gray isn’t a full-back but is very adept playing there and stepping up and into midfield. I think he’ll also get a fair amount of game time in the middle of the park so I think it’s definitely an upgrade to the squad.

Gray probably takes Oliver Skipp’s place in the squad and I think that is a positive for Tottenham’s squad.

Archie Gray could be regular Tottenham feature

Gray was a regular feature at Elland Road last season and would have been disappointed to miss out on promotion to the Premier League.

Leeds fell to a 1-0 defeat in the play-off final against Southampton, which condemned the Whites to another campaign in the Championship.

It is no surprise that after such positive performances at just 18 years old, Ange Postecoglou decided to move to sign the Englishman.

The versatile midfielder can also play as a right-back, which can make him very useful in the Spurs squad moving forward.

Although the youngster will see his future in central midfielder, knowing he can fill the void if Pedro Porro is absent is a big attraction for boss Ange Postecoglou.

Skipp has been with Spurs’ youth team since 2008 but is very much on the periphery of the starting XI and a clean break could be best for all involved.

Gray coming in could certainly give him that opportunity to go out and find regular first-team football.

In other Tottenham news, one West Ham player could still sign for the club despite a £150million transfer claim.
