Dan Bardell: Everton jump on Manchester City bandwagon against Premier League

Dan Bardell isn’t surprised that Everton are backing Manchester City against the Premier League as they look to deal with further financial issues.

The Toffees have had very public concerns with FFP and PSR which has seen them punished with multiple points deductions throughout the season.

Now there is a call to change rules to benefit clubs with Manchester City leading a case against the Premier League with Everton taking their side [Christian Smith].

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell understands why they are backing City in the hope of changing the rules in their favour.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Bardell said: “I think any team that is struggling with PSR and obviously Everton are one of those teams, they are going to jump on the Man City bandwagon and hope they have enough clout to get something done.

Everton have been affected as much as any other club so I totally understand why they might side with Man City and I don’t think they’ll be alone in that.

Clubs are generally really worried about these rules and what it’s going to do to them with points deductions and things like that so it isn’t a surprise to me to see Everton align themselves to Manchester City.

Everton back Manchester City against Premier League and PSR

There is no secret of the issues that Everton has had with finances in the past year with points deductions aplenty.

These issues have existed alongside Farhad Moshiri’s best efforts to sell the club to a suitable buyer which has proved difficult.

Links to the likes of 777 Partners burnt out after financial issues of their own gave the Toffees hierarchy cause for concern over a sale.

There have now been more concrete links to new prospective owners with the hope that a sale could be forced through soon but there are no guarantees.

Farhad Moshiri could be on the brink of finally selling his 94.1% stake at Everton.

If a new owner comes in there are still no guarantees of getting rid of the financial problems. This is why backing Manchester City makes plenty of sense.

The Toffees won’t lose anything by doing so. They might not gain anything either. They don’t lose anything by trying to help force through these rule changes for next season and beyond.

In other Everton news, a £94.2billion update has emerged as the Toffees takeover undergoes yet another twist.
