Dan Bardell tips £15m Rangers star to stay unless transfer 'domino effect' occurs

Dan Bardell has praised Rangers for trying to sign Liam Kelly while suggesting that Jack Butland will stay this summer despite interest.

The Gers shot-stopper has been superb since signing on a free transfer from Crystal Palace in July 2023 and could leave this summer.

With that being said, a move to sign Kelly from Motherwell has been bubbling under the surface for weeks and could go through after Scotland’s exit from the EUROs.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell has assessed Butland’s options while praising the Light Blues for their work in the transfer market.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, Bardell said: “I just don’t see where Butland could go for £15 million.

“The goalkeeper market is so difficult because it is a domino effect once another team sells a goalkeeper and I don’t really see that this summer.

“I don’t think there’s anywhere for him to go that is a step up from Rangers.

“Maybe if a newly promoted Premier League side wanted a goalkeeper they could potentially look at Butland but it’s unlikely they’d pay that much.

“It’s good for Rangers to bring Kelly in any way to have a contingency plan if he is to leave this summer.“

Rangers could keep Jack Butland this summer

The Englishman was great for Rangers last season and often stood out as one of their most important players with some top-class saves.

Although the Gers missed out on the Scottish Premiership and Cup, Butland couldn’t have done much more to help, for the most part.

This form certainly will play its part moving deeper into the transfer window as clubs make decisions about their business.

If a club in the Premier League need a goalkeeper and comes after Butland it may prove difficult to reject the fee and for him to turn it down.

That is a big if and Philippe Clement will be hopeful that a bid doesn’t come in and he can keep hold of his star goalkeeper into the new season.

Kelly will be a useful option if he signs, there is no doubt, but as it stands he will be number two moving into the new season and that is how it is likely to stay.
