Dan Bardell: Tottenham player could follow Cantwell example as Rangers want free transfer

Dan Bardell believes that Ryan Sessegnon could use Todd Cantwell as an example of a Rangers success story before choosing a new club after leaving Tottenham.

HITC has reported (25 June) that the Gers are set to go head-to-head with multiple English sides for the 24-year-old this summer.

His contract in North London comes to an end at the end of June and he will be available on a free transfer once he leaves Tottenham on June 30.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell has suggested that the Englishman could look at Cantwell as an example for bettering his career at Ibrox.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, Bardell said: “I think he is a prime example of a player who has made a big move too soon.

“Sessegnon burst onto the scene in the Championship for Fulham and was a big part of them being promoted to the Premier League.

“After a season and a relegation, he moved to Spurs and it’s never worked out under any manager. He’s a player who needs his career reigniting for sure.

“I think he’ll look at Todd Cantwell at Rangers and think there’s something there that will allow him to rebuild with them.

“He has to make the right move for his career this time and Rangers could be a good fit.“

Ryan Sessegnon could join Rangers on free transfer

Sessegnon was an elite young talent at one point in time after a spell in the Championship and Premier League with Fulham.

He came through the ranks and became one of their best and most important players but couldn’t help them getting relegated.

After that, he made the move to Tottenham where he has failed to make an impact across a whole host of different managers.

It is safe to say that he hasn’t quite found his role and position. He is comfortable playing anywhere down the left-hand side defensively or offensively.

With Borna Barisic departing Ibrox this summer, Sessegnon could prove to be an ideal replacement for him on a free transfer.

He hasn’t found a role at Tottenham or even on loan at Hoffenheim and he could find that regular first-team spot under Philippe Clement.

Cantwell and Jack Butland have proved that there is a place for players who need a fresh start and Sessegnon could prove to be the latest.
