David Edgar issues verdict on Rangers signing new striker who's an upgrade on Cyriel Dessers

David Edgar believes that the Rangers need to sign a striker who is an upgrade on Cyriel Dessers.

The Heart and Hand podcast host stated that the Nigeria international, who will turn 30 next month, is not going to get younger or significantly better.

This season, Dessers has bagged three goals in 10 league games while he’s scored a total of nine in 19 games in all competitions.

Via X, Edgar wrote: “Dessers is Dessers. He’s 30, he’s not going to change or get significantly better and we need an upgrade.”

At 29, Dessers is likely at or near his peak, with limited room for significant improvement.

His performance this season, with only three goals in 10 league matches, underscores a persistent inconsistency which does not meet the expectations for a leading striker at Rangers.

The club need a forward who can reliably score, maintain form over the season and elevate the team’s performance in both domestic and European competitions.

An upgrade on the Nigerian would not only bolster the squad’s attacking options but also rejuvenate the team’s offensive strategy.

The urgency to act over the summer is driven by the need to ensure that the team do not begin next season with a striker incapable of being a menace in the final third.

It also remains to be seen how Danilo fares and whether or not he can maintain his fitness until the end of the season.
