David Edgar moots new Ianis Hagi agreement at Rangers after transfer drama

David Edgar believes Ianis Hagi will reach an agreement over reduced terms at Rangers after his transfer drama at Ibrox this summer.

The 25-year-old’s current contract contains a clause that could trigger a £6,000 boost in weekly wages once he reaches a certain number of games for the Gers [Daily Record].

The Romanian has been training with the Gers’ B team since returning from his season-long loan with Deportivo Alaves, though he has made his desire to remain at Ibrox clear.

Being asked whether Hagi and Rangers could find a new agreement, the Heart and Hand founder replied via X [30 August]: “I think so, yes.”

Ianis Hagi to remain at Rangers after Ibrox drama?

The transfer saga surrounding Hagi and a potential move away has been draining for everyone at the Scottish club, which could make it difficult for him to earn back the trust of the fans.

However, the player is clearly desperate to remain with the Scottish club this summer, having turned down moves back to Romania.

It was believed that the player’s contract could be terminated due to being surplus to requirement at Philippe Clement’s side, as per the Daily Record, but it seems now he is set to stay at the club.

Clement has already moved on players who are unwilling to put their all into the club, like Todd Cantwell, who has confirmed his long-awaited move to Blackburn Rovers.

If the player agrees to a new deal, all parties can put this summer transfer window behind them, bringing a decent attacking option back into the side for the 2024/25 campaign.

Despite a poor loan in La Liga, making just eight starts and grabbing just two assists, Hagi has plenty of good moments in a Light Blue shirt, and hopefully, he can have more over the next couple of seasons.
