Club director tries to deepen Everton interest in brand new striker transfer - report

Everton are being pushed to sign AS Roma striker Tammy Abraham ahead of the 30 August deadline, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Italian newspaper reported [14 August, page 16] that Roma sporting director Florent Ghisolfi attempted to deepen interest in the 26-year-old from the Toffees.

While the striker is ready to compete with new signing Artem Dobvyk for his place in Danielle De Rossi’s starting XI, he has suggested he would be open to an exit should the owners decide to sell him [Liverpool Echo].

Everton to sign AS Roma striker Tammy Abraham?

The Toffees have already made a significant statement during the summer transfer window, with Tim Iroegbunam, Iliman Ndiaye, Jesper Lindstrom and Jake O’Brien added to the squad.

Despite the collapse of Dan Friedkin’s takeover attempt, which Bryan King told Goodison News on 7 July had hit a “stumbling block” due to the debt owed, Sean Dyche and Kevin Thelwell’s plans continued without a hitch.

The Merseyside club are also being heavily linked with a £29.9million deal for Barcelona’s Vitor Roque [Sport], showing a determination to bring in a new striker before the transfer window closes.

Both of these links could suggest that Dominic Calvert-Lewin could be getting closer to a Goodison Park exit, but something needs to change in the final third of the pitch.

Only Sheffield United scored fewer goals in the Premier League last season, and without the incredible centre-back partnership of James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite, Everton could have been preparing for a season in the Championship.

Given Abraham’s previous experience in England with Chelsea and Aston Villa, he could be a sensible purchase this summer, but a striker exit might be needed at Goodison Park first.

In other Everton news, takeover bids are ready in brand new developments at Goodison Park.
