Tom Lawrence hopes to hold more talks with Craig Bellamy regarding a return to the Wales set-up after catching the eye with Rangers.

The 30-year-old has not represented his country since starting in the 1-0 win over Mexico in March 2021.

However, Lawrence has made an impressive start to the 2024-25 campaign with Rangers and now hopes to reignite his national team career.

“I spoke to the manager before the international break this month,” Lawrence said, as per the Glasgow Times [20 September].

“We’ll have another chat and see where we’re at. But there’s no pressure on it, it’s pretty open on both sides.

“I’m not going to say I should be in this or be in that. It was open to go there last time but we felt it was right with the injuries I’ve had in the past just to keep going and make sure I get good training here.

“We’ll have another chat before the next international break but there’s no pressure on either side.”

Tom Lawrence set for Wales recall v Iceland and Montenegro

Lawrence can have no major complaints about his Wales snub in recent seasons, having struggled for consistency at Ibrox.

With two goals and an assist in the Gers’ past three games, though, including the winning strike against Dundee United, he is now back in form.

Wales already have a fair few wide and central attacking midfield options, but Bellamy will surely recall Lawrence for next month’s matches.

The Dragons travel to Iceland on 11 October and then host Montenegro three days later in Cardiff.

From a selfish point of view, Philippe Clement would no doubt rather Lawrence rests up during that fortnight.

Putting on a red top again will only boost Lawrence’s confidence, however, and it will be a just reward should he manage to keep this form alive.

The key now is to simply stay fit and continue contributing to goals over the next couple of weeks before the squad announcement is made.

In other Rangers news, a pundit has urged Clement to consider selecting a certain player against Dundee.
