Rangers and Celtic should be worried if Tony Bloom ends up at Hearts, believes Sky Sports pundit Kris Boyd.
Speaking to the Scottish Sun [20 September], the former Gers striker believes that he could have an even bigger impact than what Souness did at Ibrox.
Edinburgh News reported on 17 September that Bloom was in talks with Hearts about a potential £10million investment.
“Graeme Souness triggered a revolution at Rangers. Fergus McCann brought Celtic back from the brink.
“But if Bloom goes into Hearts it could be an even bigger moment in Scottish football than those two success stories.
“If I was in charge of Rangers or Celtic right now I’d be extremely worried about his plans and ambitions for the Jambos.
“This is a guy who doesn’t ever do things on a whim. He’s a serious businessman with an analytics firm that knows exactly how to identify up and coming talent.
“He buys and sells players for a profit. But crucially he does while making football clubs successful along the way.”
Rangers and Celtic have every reason to be worried of Tony Bloom’s potential arrival
Bloom is famously known for how he transformed Brighton and made them a force to be reckoned with in the Premier League.
His arrival in Scottish football could be a game changer as he’ll only have two sides realistically ahead of Hearts in terms of current ability.
If money is put in the right places, there’s no reason why the Jambos cannot break the duopoly of the two Glasgow sides.
Boyd is right, this could be a worry for the two Old Firm clubs as they do not have a sophisticated system in place behind the scenes like how Bloom has at his teams.
From player recruitment to day-to-day operations, the state-of-the-art data-driven approach has given his side the edge over teams that have loftier budgets.
It remains to be seen if the investment ends up happening as these things always have the capability of crumbling at the final hurdle.
In other Rangers news, David Edgar has issued an update about Dave King securing a return to Ibrox amid the recent chaos.
