Mauricio Pochettino was a truly beloved figure during his time as Tottenham manager.
Tottenham fans love Pochettino for what he brought to Spurs, while Pochettino was also adored by many of his players.
Ryan Mason says he would do anything for Pochettino, and Pochettino still loves Spurs as a club.
There are many happy memories for Pochettino in north London. However, he didn’t quite connect with every single one of his players in the same way.
Speaking to Rising Ballers, Ryan Sessegnon has been discussing his time at Tottenham, and he says that he had a difficult relationship with Pochettino.
The £25m man says that he barely had any contact with Pochettino at Tottenham and the two barely spoke due to his injury issues.

Mauricio Pochettino barely spoke to Ryan Sessegnon
Sessegnon spoke about his arrival at Tottenham and his difficult relationship with the Spurs manager.
The Fulham ace says Pochettino barely spoke to him during his time in north London.
“I’d just come back from the U21s Euros and I got injured in that tournament. I arrived injured. I turned up and I wasn’t training, I was in the physio room, and I didn’t have much contact with Poch or the team. At the time he didn’t want injured players in his meetings or stuff like that. He welcomed me to the club and all of that stuff, but I wasn’t around the players or stuff at the time,” Sessegnon said.
“By the time I got back, I went to England U21s camp in November that season, when I came back Pochettino got sacked. So I didn’t have much of a relationship with Poch, even though he brought me to the club.”
Mauricio Pochettino was the reason Ryan Sessegnon joined Tottenham
Sessegnon must’ve been frustrated by the relationship he had with his manager, because Pochettino was the reason Sessegnon joined Tottenham.
Indeed, the defender admitted a few years ago that Pochettino was the driving force behind his move to Spurs.
“When I was a bit younger, I was aware that Spurs wanted me to sign previous to when I did, but when I eventually did, he (Pochettino) was the main reason why,” Sessegnon said.
“Obviously I knew his track record with young players at the club.
“I looked at that and thought it was a good opportunity for me to come and play a lot of games at a young age under him. When he went, it was difficult because he was the main reason why I signed and when I was coming back to full fitness, a new manager had come in.”
In all honesty, Pochettino should’ve handled Sessegnon differently here.
Yes, Sessegnon was injured, so he couldn’t play a part in training, but you need to look after your new signings and help them settle, especially when they’re 18 years old coming off the back of a relegation with their boyhood club.
Sessegnon’s time at Tottenham ultimately didn’t work out, and, sadly, he’s still not reached his potential as a player.
