'Different Class' - Pundit blown away by Rangers signing as club left 'Upset' in transfer dispute

Connor Barron’s performances since signing for Rangers show why Aberdeen have been upset about losing him, says Derek Ferguson.

The young midfielder moved to Ibrox in the summer after his contract at Pittodrie expired and impressed as the only immediate new starter under Philippe Clement.

But the Dons have rejected the £525,000 compensation offer from the Light Blues are look set to take the club to a tribunal [Scottish Sun, 25 June].

Ferguson is delighted with the 21-year-old’s start to life as a Gers player and believes the Scot’s form explains why Aberdeen aren’t happy to cooperate.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News he said: “What you can see now is why Aberdeen are a wee bit upset is because he’s come to Rangers and he’s played out of his skin, he’s been different class.

“Probably he’s surprised quite a number of the Rangers support because of how well he’s done. We’ve got a good player in the door and I still think to be offering £500,000 was a good deal.

“But I can also see the other side, why Aberdeen are a wee bit upset, because we’ve got a good player in Barron.”

The Light Blues transfer window proved to be a slog as Clement struggled to offload expensive peripheral options bring in the players he wanted.

Barron hasn’t been faultless in his early performances under the Belgian but in a stuttering side he has been one of the bright spots so far.

Rangers have offered more than the half-million Aberdeen would have been due if the youngster had moved out of Scotland [The Rangers Review, 20 June] and it is ultimately their responsibility for not extending his contract while they could.

They may be regretting their failure to do so, and the backlash over the move may be extra due to the relationship between the two sides [Ryan Jack, 9 August], but that ship has sailed and dragging out the compensation dispute is a needless distraction all round.

In other Rangers news, a higher transfer fee has emerged for Todd Cantwell.
