Daniel Farke will be reluctant to let Glen Kamara leave despite Leeds United having sanctioned a deal for him to join Rennes.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson insisted the manager would not have wanted to entertain offers for the midfielder after he signed for the club just one year ago.
He went on to suggest there may have been an issue behind the scenes at Elland Road which pushed Farke into agreeing to the deal.
Robinson claimed Kamara may have asked the board to let him leave, and Farke wouldn’t want to keep a player who didn’t want to be there.
Kamara looks set to join Ligue 1 outfit Rennes after Football Insider revealed they had made a contract offer to the midfielder on 10 July, with the deal moving quickly.
Daniel Farke reluctant to let Glen Kamara leave in ‘surprise’ Leeds United transfer twist
Kamara joined Leeds in a deal worth £5million last summer and featured 42 times last season under Farke, but his exit is expected to be confirmed this week.
Robinson, who is well connected at his former club, is shocked that the deal had moved so quickly after it came “out of the blue”, insisting there must have been a hidden reason behind his probable exit.
“That’s a deal that I wasn’t aware of,” he told Football Insider.
“It’s come out of the blue. He’s only just come into the club, they’ve been long-term admirers of his and he did very well last season.
“Now Archie Gray has gone and the financial situation is eased, I’m surprised the club have sanctioned that deal.
“He’s a player that Daniel Farke would have been reluctant to lose, so I’m not sure what’s gone on behind the scenes.
“Whether Kamara has an issue and wants to leave, or whether he’s spoken to the club and told them he’d like to leave.
“If there’s an agreement there, the manager might say ‘If he wants to go, let him go.’
“I’m shocked at that one, though, because he’d only just come into the side.”
