Rangers defender John Souttar is unlikely to be back for the game against Celtic on 2 January, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.
The injury expert claims that the centre-back’s issue is a potential Grade 2 groin injury which will keep him out for a while.
This comes after Philippe Clement ruled him out for the remaining matches in 2024, but did not put a timeframe on his return.
Discussing his situation exclusively with Ibrox News, Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said: “This sounds like a potential Grade 2 out of 4 groin injury based on the timeline and fluid situation.
“As stated by the manager, it really depends on the response.
“He may not be ready for the 2 January clash unless he has a good few days of training in the build up to it.
“As things stand, he’s likely to be out.“
John Souttar’s absence is a huge blow for Rangers
The 28-year-old has become one of the first names on the team sheet for Clement.
This season, he’s made 14 league starts and another six in the Europa League, being a stalwart at the back for the Ibrox outfit.
It remains to be seen if Robin Propper can take his game to the next level in Souttar’s absence.
Clement managed to cut the gap back down to nine points before Christmas with the 1-0 win over Dundee on 21 December, as Celtic limped to a 0-0 draw against Dundee United ahead of the busy period leading up to New Year.
In other Rangers news, the executives of a Manchester-based company valued at nearly £1billion have made their decision on the Ibrox outfit.
