Doctor suggests behind-the-scenes program as Everton sign young defender from EFL club

Everton must set up a fitness program to help new signing William Tamen adapt to first-team football in the future, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert claims that the club must also monitor the centre-back’s workload to ensure that he does not face any fitness issues.

This comes after the Toffees announced via their official website on 13 August that the 18-year-old has joined from League One outfit Burton Albion.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Brar, a specialist in Physical Therapy and Sports Scientist, said about Tamen: “The key will be bridging fitness gaps and how I’d advise the club to do that was through a fitness program and then bringing him along slowly while monitoring his workload.

“You can never know for sure if someone’s ready for first team football but the key is how is he responding to first team training and to match minutes.

“It’s a gradual process and important not to rush things as it could lead to problems down the line.“

William Tamen is one for the future for Everton

Tamen made his League One senior debut for Burton last season and while he’s joined to be an under-21s player, he could one day make it to the Toffees’ first-team.

The suggestion of a fitness program does make a whole lot of sense as managers may turn to the youth sides and reserves in the event of an injury crisis.

Tamen has some experience of senior football and that can always come in handy.
