'Dreadful' - Pundit reacts as footage emerges from Rangers v Hibs clash

Tam McManus has slammed Mykola Kuharevich for missing a penalty that resulted in Rangers winning 1-0 against Hibs on 29 September.

The visitors received a controversial penalty that was talked about in the aftermath of the game played at Ibrox.

However, Jack Butland pulled out a save and denied Hibs a goal in front of the Ibrox faithful on Sunday.

McManus told PLZ Soccer on 30 September at 8:06: “I thought it was a dreadful penalty. I thought that the stutter run up to it was, I’ve tried that myself in
training just messing about.

“You can’t generate any pace when you go up and you take a step.

“When you slow down you can’t generate any pace.

“You’ve got to keep watching the goalkeeper and then as you said when he dives you put it the other way.”

Jack Butland also deserves credit for winning Rangers the game

While Kuharevich’s penalty was indeed poorly executed, Butland’s performance was pivotal in Gers’ 1-0 victory over Hibs.

Butland’s save wasn’t just about the goalkeeper’s reflexes but also his ability to read the intention behind Kuharevich’s stutter step, which, as McManus pointed out, compromised the shot’s power and direction.

This save not only kept Rangers in the lead but also injected a surge of momentum and confidence into the team.

The English goalkeeper’s actions throughout the game, including other crucial saves and his command of the backline, demonstrated why he deserves significant credit for the win.

His performance was a critical factor in securing the three points for the Ibrox, highlighting his value not just as a goalkeeper but as a match-winner through his calmness under pressure.

This side would be significantly worse off without Butland in goal and Clement surely knows that.
