'Empty, hollow' - Keith Jackson hits out after what was said at Rangers recently

John Gilligan’s comments about Rangers appointing a new chief executive were “clumsy”, Keith Jackson has said.

Speaking on the Daily Record’s Hotline (14 November), Jackson said that “nothing” is happening when it comes to boardroom changes at Ibrox, despite what Gilligan has said since taking interim charge.

The Gers plan to have a new chairman in place by their AGM on 5 December [Chris Jack, 13 November], but Jackson berated the Ibrox hierarchy for allowing the club to become a shadow of its former self.

He said: “Nothing continues to happen, seems to be the update.

“I think he’s well-meaning, John Gilligan, but his choice of words was clumsy when he said, ‘in the dream scenario, we’d have a new chief executive in before Christmas’. In what way is that a dream scenario?

“Why are Rangers finding it so difficult, to make decent recruitment at boardroom level, and then to keep hold of anybody – why have they been reduced to such an empty, hollow status?”

Rangers boardroom remains on downward spiral at Ibrox

It’s coming close to six months since James Bisgrove vacated his position as the Gers’ CEO, and with a spate of departures following in the wake of this, it’s clear just how much the club are lacking leaders.

Bisgrove was quickly followed out of the door by academy director Zeb Jacobs, with chairman John Bennett and director of football operations Creag Robertson also exiting since the start of this season.

While Gilligan is only in interim charge of the club, he is still an internal appointment who knows the ins and outs of Ibrox, and a clear lack of ambition to fill these key vacancies is a damning indictment.

Should a new chairman be in place by the start of December, fans may start to see some light at the end of the tunnel, but optimism couldn’t be lower about the Light Blues at the moment.

The malaise has been allowed to grow and overtake almost every facet of the club, and it remains to be seen if boardroom appointments – if and when they arrive – can steer Gers back in the right direction.

In other Rangers news, Si Ferry was left in shock after what one pundit told him ahead of the Gers’ match against Hearts at Ibrox.
