Finance Expert says bigger numbers likely needed for Rangers takeover after investment updates

Rangers would need bigger money to entertain a full takeover after Billy Walker was linked with fresh investment at Ibrox, Dan Plumley has said.

The GlenAllachie Master Distiller admitted that he would like to invest at Rangers, but only if he had a say in what direction the club was going in.

Plumley, a football finance expert, shared that sources likely place Walker as a millionaire, not a billionaire as he looked into the possible negotiations over investment and what the Ibrox board wants.

“It’s an interesting one,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.

“You can’t quite find out what his net worth is exactly, but most sources you look at would land him as a millionaire rather than a billionaire, that’s not to do him a disservice but that’s the market that he’s in particularly.

“Then it’s how much is that investment potentially going to be? What’s the stake of that investment linked to the ownership structure of the club? How much decision-making and control does he want as part of a stake?

“All of those things are in negotiations, he certainly seems to have money there to invest or money linked to other business ventures that would look attractive.

“It may be that the club decides that is a good fit based on the terms of the arrangement, but it’s how much investment are they looking for? Is he the type of person who could buy Rangers outright?

“I don’t think so, so you’re probably looking at partial investment, if you’re looking for an outright sale and bigger numbers, you may need to look in a different market but I think the board are looking for investment at the minute, rather than a full takeover.”

John Gilligan has been dumped several key jobs to sort out at Ibrox, with fresh investment likely not at the top of his list right now.

The board is, however, open to fresh outside investment so that could open the door to Walker, just not for him to take over fully [Andy Newport].
