Ange Postecoglou will make two changes when Tottenham host Manchester United on Thursday, according to a Spurs insider.
Postecoglou and his players will be in a much better mood after thrashing Southampton 5-0 in the Premier League at St Mary’s Stadium on Sunday [15 December], with Troy Deeney particularly impressed by one player.
There were surprise starts for Lucas Bergvall and Djed Spence, with the latter praised for his “terrific” display on the South Coast. However, both players could still be dropped when Spurs welcome Manchester United to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for their Carabao Cup quarter-final clash on 19 December.
That is according to ex-Spurs scout Bryan King, who revealed how he expects the home side to line up while speaking exclusively with Tottenham News.
“I thought Spence played well against Southampton,” King said.
“He looked an interesting player and proved he can play in the Premier League, albeit it was against Southampton. Bergvall started slow, but as the game went on he seemed to find his feet.
“Therefore, these are players who could be in contention. However, I think Postecoglou will look to play his strongest team on Thursday, and I think that will include Brennan Johnson and James Maddison. I expect that Yves Bissouma will start on the bench.
“I think Pedro Porro will come back in for Spence, hopefully, Destiny Udogie can play, and then Johnson will replace Bergvall, meaning a midfield three of Sarr, Kulusevski and Maddison.”
Ange Postecoglou to make two Tottenham changes against Manchester United?
Postecoglou eased some of the pressure on his shoulders in North London with that emphatic win against the Saints, which saw one player break a club record. However, this match against United will likely be a much tougher test.
Spurs fans are desperate for a trophy, and after their inconsistent form in the Premier League, it seems as though the cup competitions could prove more important than ever this season.
As a result, Postecoglou can’t have one eye on the Premier League clash with Liverpool on Sunday [22 December], also at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and must go full strength in this one.
It feels as though the mood has improved slightly among the Spurs faithful and advancing to the semi-final of a cup competition could be the start of a big turnaround for Postecoglou, who is expected to need something “remarkable” to keep his job until the end of the season.
