Newcastle United would “love” to sign Barcelona winger Raphinha before the window shuts, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that he doesn’t see how a deal for the Brazil international will be possible.
The Magpies are in the market for a wide forward before the transfer deadline, but Raphinha’s price tag might be too high for Newcastle.
In addition, the 27-year-old is said to be determined to stay and fight for his place at the Spanish side next season following the rise of Lamine Yamal.
Raphinha has received offers from Saudi Arabia, but the winger, who left Leeds in 2022, turned them down to stay with the La Liga giants.
There are many obstacles in the way of a potential transfer for Newcastle, which could make a move for Raphinha too complicated in this window.
Newcastle are exploring other options outside of Raphinha
Even though Raphina is a player Newcastle would like to have in the squad, the club are monitoring other options in their bid to sign a winger.
The 22-year-old has been on Eddie Howe’s shortlist this summer after the club missed out on Michael Olise, who joined Bayern Munich earlier in the window.
Despite wanting to improve the attacking options for next season, Newcastle’s current priority is signing Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.
