Ange Postecoglou has lauded Manchester United wantaway star Marcus Rashford, who has been linked with a switch to Tottenham Hotspur.
Rashford recently revealed to Henry Winter [17 December] that he is seeking an exit from his boyhood club, having made his debut at Old Trafford almost nine years ago and is now preferring a “new challenge”.
However, Postecoglou, whose side host United in the Carabao Cup quarter-final on Thursday [19 December], has distanced Spurs from a move for Rashford – for whom both sides of North London have been discussed as possible future destinations [Evening Standard, 18 December].
As quoted by Metro [18 December], the Lilywhites boss said in preparation to face Rashford’s United: “Don’t care, no interest. He’s a Man United player, a very good player, they’ve got plenty of good players.
“But I manage my players and I guess other managers will manage their own players.
“In terms of Marcus’ situation, I have no real desire to examine it any further.”
Tottenham not currently in for Marcus Rashford
With many reports of Rashford feeling unsettled with the Red Devils, John Wenham was among the experts to rule out any chance of a Tottenham bid for the 27-year-old last summer.
Spurs currently boast a wealth of attacking talent at their disposal, with the illustrious Son Heung-min complemented by Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison and Brennan Johnson.
Dominic Solanke was added for a whopping £65million in the summer from Bournemouth, with Daniel Levy’s previous record deeming it unlikely Spurs would go hard again in luring Rashford south.
Rashford cannot really be blamed for seeking a new chapter, having progressed through the ranks at his local club and endured the world of pressure on his shoulders at times.
He has been largely shunned from the England setup in recent times although did claim his 60th cap in a defeat to Brazil back in March of this year, and suffered a severe drop in form last season when his eight goals followed 30 strikes in the 2022-23 campaign.
Rashford currently has seven goals and three assists in 24 matches in all competitions this season, and is under contract with Ruben Amorim’s men until 2028.
In other Tottenham news, a potential surprise move is lined up for a goalkeeper in Brazil.
