Report: Tottenham trying to beat Liverpool to signing of defender Erik ten Hag tipped an for 'amazing career'

With just over a month until the January window opens, Premier League clubs are already springing into action and Tottenham could look to beat Liverpool to one key target.

Both Spurs and the Reds had differing summer windows as Tottenham backed Ange Postecoglou with more signings while Liverpool decided on just signing Federico Chiesa.

However, the task of adding to and strengthening the squad never stops and with the January and summer windows to come, both teams are looking at players.

Indeed, it now seems both Liverpool and Tottenham are focussed on similar players, with young Dutch defender, Devyne Rensch, the latest to be linked.

Tottenham and Liverpool keen on Devyne Rensch

According to a report from SPORT, young Dutch full-back Devyne Rensch is a target for both Liverpool and Tottenham.

Rensch recently made his debut for the Dutch national team and is the latest in a long line of full-backs to emerge from the Netherlands in recent years.

The 21-year-old is out of contract in the summer and as it stands, there is no sign of him penning fresh terms with Ajax.

Tottenham and Liverpool, then, could well land Rensch for nothing and improve their squads and future outlook at the same time.

There is a caveat that Barcelona are also keen on Rensch, who could well have a decision to make come January.

Erik ten Hag approves of Devyne Rensch

We all know former Man United manager Erik ten Hag loved a player from Ajax and he has given Devyne Rensch his seal of approval in the past.

“He has great vision, athleticism and technique, so he has a number of attributes to have an amazing career. I’m proud that he is making these steps at such a young age, although he has to stay humble,” Ten Hag said.

The Premier League, of course, is a different animal and as we’ve seen with Ten Hag’s signings, not all players from Dutch football adapt.

But Rensch is young enough to do the business and on a free, he might well be worth a punt for both Spurs and Liverpool.
