English clubs want to sign Rangers player who is now open to exit - report

Ben Davies is ready to quit Rangers during the summer transfer window amid interest from Championship clubs, according to The Fourth Official.

The outlet reported via its YouTube channel on Tuesday (2 July) that the Englishman has now been deemed surplus to requirements at Ibrox and has attracted interest from clubs in the English second tier this summer.

Davies is open to leaving Glasgow during the transfer window having fallen down Philippe Clement’s pecking order throughout last season, but so far no clubs have been named in the race for his signature.

Speaking on YouTube, The Fourth Official said: “We anticipate that Ben Davies is surplus to requirements at Ibrox this season and there is interest in Ben Davies from the English Championship.

“Now no clubs have been noted as of yet but he previously had interested Sheffield United. It is my understanding that Ben Davies is open to a future beyond Rangers next season.

“He believes that he is well down the pecking order with Rangers signing Clinton Nsiala already this summer and obviously still in the market for other defenders as well.”

Davies was almost entirely out of the picture in Glasgow last season following Clement’s appointment so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that, that is unlikely to change following the summer rebuild at Ibrox.

The Belgian is eager to sign one or two more central defenders this summer even after the addition of Nsiala and with every new signing, the Englishman’s minutes will continue to be reduced.

A move back south of the border seems to make sense for all parties involved this summer. Davies will be able to play first-team football week in and week out and the Light Blues will pocket a reasonable fee for a player with no future in Scotland.

Hopefully, a deal can be agreed quickly with a Championship club before pre-season really gets underway in Glasgow. That way, the Light Blues can move quickly to try and bring in a replacement to play a more reduced role.
