Dan Bardell suggests time might be right for Rangers to sell 25-y/o

Dan Bardell believes Rangers should assess their options with Ianis Hagi after positive performances for Romania at Euro 2024, but says they may not have a better chance to cash in than right now.

The Tricolours captured the imagination as they reached the round of 16 of the tournament for the second time in their history before being knocked out by the Netherlands on Tuesday (2 July).

Hagi was one of their star players but reports have suggested that he doesn’t have a future under Philippe Clement [Chris Jack, 27 June].

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell believes that, with Romania’s Euro 2024 showings fresh in the memory, the Light Blues may see this as the right time to offload.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, Bardell said: “Maybe it’s a case of cashing in while he’s on people’s minds.

He’s had a mixed bag at Rangers but he’s always going to carry interest because of his famous footballing name.

It is whether Rangers think they can get a tune out of him next season or they look to sell while clubs are more keen on him.

It will be interesting to see what happens after a good few games for Romania at the Euros.

Ianis Hagi set to leave Rangers after Romania Euro 2024 showings

The versatile midfielder spent last season on loan with Deportivo Alaves, where he failed to score a single goal in LaLiga.

The 25-year-old featured across 26 appearances in all competitions for the Spanish side and scored twice in the Copa del Rey.

With these stats, Clement wouldn’t be blamed if he was to sell the Romanian given his lack of quality performances over recent years.

This opinion may have been altered after his Euro 2024 campaign, where he has been a mainstay for his country in a positive round-of-16 finish.

Hagi came off the bench in the opening two games of the tournament but was trusted from the start in the next two against Slovakia and the Netherlands.

The Gers attacking midfielder didn’t get on the scoresheet but still managed to have a positive impact under Edward Lordanescu.

Now the 25-year-old could leave Ibrox on a high as Clement looks to cash in, or the Belgian could yet look to get the most out of Hagi next season.

In other Rangers news, the club have received offers from a number of English clubs for an in-demand player who’s made his decision about his future at Ibrox.
