Erik ten Hag has addressed Manchester United fans for the first time after his dismissal as manager due to the team’s poor start to the season.
The 54-year-old left the club after over two years at Old Trafford having guided them to their worst-ever start to a Premier League season.
Ten Hag nearly lost his job at the end of last season, with the club openly talking to potential replacements, but was saved after their 2-1 FA Cup final win over rivals Man City.
United now sit in 14th with just eleven points from their opening nine league games as they prepare to take on Enzo Maresca’s in-form Chelsea side.
Former striker Ruud van Nistelrooy will remain in temporary charge of the club for their game against the West Londoners after leading them to an impressive 5-2 League Cup win over Leicester in midweek.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the rest of the Man United hierarchy moved swiftly to replace Ten Hag, appointing highly-regarded Sporting CP coach Ruben Amorim.
Amorim will officially take the helm after the November international break with Van Nistelrooy set to lead the 20-time champions for their next three games.
Erik ten Hag sends heartwarming farewell message to Man United fans
Ten Hag leaves the club with two domestic cups under his belt having lifted the League Cup in his first season in charge back in 2022-23.
Much like Amorim, Ten Hag found great success with a trendy European club before making the move, leading his young Ajax side to two Eredivisie titles.
Unfortunately, he was unable to recreate that achievement at United and has taken to X, formally know as Twitter to send a message to the fans via his representation SEG Football.
While Ten Hag is clearly shaken up after his dismissal, Dutch outlet Voetbalzone reported that he received a hefty £17million payoff.
After their crucial clash with Chelsea, United have two home games against PAOK and Leicester in the Europa League and Premier League, respectively.
