Erling Haaland to John Stones: The Man City players who made the most appearances for Pep Guardiola in 2024
It explains why City have struggled recently.
After starting brilliantly, 2024 has turned out to be a pretty disappointing year for Manchester City.
The year began on fire with Kevin De Bruyne’s return to the side immediately sparking a massive return to form as Manchester City embarked on another lengthy unbeaten streak.
It resulted in Pep Guardiola’s side becoming the first team in English history to win the top league title four years in a row but things have been down hill since.
An early Champions League exit and FA Cup final defeat to neighbours Manchester United has been followed up with a terrible start to the 2024/25 campaign.
A season-ending injury to Rodri has sent the Blues spiralling, with an unthinkable run of just one win in 11 games seeing them slide down the table.
It has been collapse after collapse for City and they will be hoping things improve in 2025. Injuries to a small squad have been a big problem and it’s easy to see who has spent a lot of time on the sidelines when you look at the appearances stats.
Here is every player who represented City in 2024 and how much they played.

Man City’s 2024 injury problems are clear
The fact that Julian Alvarez has played a similar number of games as the likes of John Stones, Nathan Ake and Rodri, despite leaving the club in the summer, just shows how badly the Blues have been hit with injuries.
The back line has been hit particularly hard with Stones and Ake picking up several strains and knocks, resulting in Matheus Nunes having to play left-back against United. With disastrous consequences.
Not a lot has gone right for City towards the end of 2024, with performances and confidence well down. But injuries and fatigue have had a massive impact.
If City want to salvage their season then some fresh legs to reinforce a weary squad is desperately needed in the January transfer window before those who have played 50+ matches start getting injured too.
