Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville disagree over where Arsenal and Liverpool will finish this season

Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville have both picked who they think will finish in the Premier League top four after the season reaches its halfway point.

Liverpool and Arsenal have emerged as the two clear favourites to win the Premier League with Nottingham Forest and Chelsea occupying the other spots in the top four.

Manchester City returned to winning ways in their previous outing and certainly cannot be discounted, meanwhile, Newcastle’s 2-0 win at Old Trafford moved them into fifth place.

Just six points separate fourth and ninth with the race for Champions League football really starting to heat up and Carragher and Neville have picked their favourites for the top four.

Jamie Carragher is backing his former club Liverpool to get over the line in the title race, however, Gary Neville believes Arsenal will end their 11-year wait for the Premier League trophy.

Mikel Arteta’s side will need to make up nine points across the remaining 20 matches which could take some doing given Liverpool’s form. The Reds look unstoppable right now having just thrashed West Ham United 5-0 in East London and making it 14 wins from 18 matches.

Elsewhere in the table, Carragher and Neville are not so sure that Nottingham Forest will maintain their form and make their long-awaited return to the Champions League. Nuno Espirito Santo’s team are currently in second place but both pundits predict they’ll end up sixth.

The Sky Sports duo are backing Chelsea to end up third despite their recent wobble and for Manchester City to squeeze into the final fourth place spot.

In terms of relegation, there appears to be a clear consensus with all three of the newly promoted clubs predicted to go straight back down. Carragher and Neville both have Leicester, Ipswich and Southampton finishing in the bottom three.

The Saints are on for a record-low points tally having collected just six at the halfway stage of the season and already find themselves 10 points adrift.
