Everton attacker Youseff Chermiti has shared a new injury update following recent developments at Goodison Park during pre-season.
The Portuguese forward missed the Toffees last pre-season match against Preston, with Sean Dyche confirming after the game that the 20-year-old would be set for an extended spell on the sidelines [Liverpool Echo, 3 August].
Chermiti is expected to be out of action for more than a couple of weeks and while the nature of the issue is unclear, the striker has shared an update from his hospital bed in an attempt to keep supporters informed.
Posting on his Instagram story on Monday (5 August) the forward shared an image of him in a hospital gown with his left foot heavily bandaged captioned: “Thanks for all your messages, I’ll be back soon.”
How bad is Youseff Chermiti’s injury at Everton?
You don’t have to be a medical professional to realise this doesn’t look like a minor issue for Chermiti with the new season only a matter of weeks away now.
It appears as though the Portuguese forward has had some sort of surgery on his left foot, otherwise, it would make little sense for him to be in a hospital or have his foot so heavily bandaged for any sort of minor issue.
While Dyche had left his condition fairly unclear, this update would suggest that it could be months before supporters see the forward back in action at Goodison Park. Hopefully, a clearer timeframe will be placed on his return by Everton in the coming weeks.
It is an immense shame to see this happen to the 20-year-old given his performances in pre-season so far. Whether or not he would’ve been starting regularly under Dyche remains unclear, but he would have been deserving of the chance.
Keeping hold of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto may have just become a whole lot more important for the Blues.
In other Everton news, takeover clarity may emerge at Goodison Park within days after a recent update from Alan Myers
