Farhad Moshiri has to secure a new Everton buyer to keep the club out of “serious trouble” during the new campaign, The Guardian reports.
According to the paper’s season preview on their website on 8 August the financial picture at Goodison Park is “uncertain and worrying” after the Dan Friedkin takeover collapse snatched away hopes of a stable new era under the American.
The club are secure for money as things stand but will be heading for big problems in-season if Moshiri is still yet to accept a new buy-out offer.
Additionally, the threat of a third points deduction continues to loom overhead as the dispute with the Premier League over £17million in interest payments is yet to be resolved and the date for the hearing hasn’t been announced.
John Textor could hand Farhad Moshiri route out of Everton chaos
The Everton transfer window has not looked vastly different from a lot of other clubs for once but that appears to be masking the potential for more chaos once the deadline passes.
Friedkin’s decision to pull out was a hugely disappointing for a fanbase which finally felt that it was within touching distance of normality, but the real effects look set to be delayed.
It appears that only a new buyer taking over can provide a realistic avenue to funding, with stars potentially at risk of being sacrificed still before the transfer deadline as a result [Talking the Blues, 20 July].
Finance expert Kieran Maguire (31 July) has predicted there could be issues as early as October when the current cash reserves start to run out.
Crystal Palace part-owner John Textor has again emerged as a potential buyer but would have to rid himself of his holding at Selhurst Park first.
The Guardian reported on 9 August that an offer had already been made, although a source close to the deal has told Goodison News that story is slightly premature, although there is interest.
Whether it is the American or one of the other interested parties or offers that have been alluded to since Friedkin exited there needs to be serious progress soon, amid doubts as to who will be able to overcome the issues which brought the previous attempt down.
In other Everton news, the Toffees have been stunned by a surprise £50million-plus transfer announcement.
