Manchester United are expected to return with a fresh move for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite next summer, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Writing on their website [9 September] the news outlet reported that Erik ten Hag is already planning for next summer and will target a defender, midfielder, and winger with Branthwaite top of the list at centre-back.

Everton were surprised Man United moved swiftly to secure a £53million move for Leny Yoro after weeks of haggling over the price for Branthwaite and the Blues will surely prove to be tough negotiators should the Red Devils return for the defender.

Everton will stand firm on Jarrad Branthwaite

It seems unplausible that United will make another move for Branthwaite next year, the club admitted defeat in the pursuit this summer [Daily Mail] and moved to sign Yoro and Matheus de Ligt.

Kevin Thelwell should be commended for his non-nonsensical approach to the negotiations and, as Yoro rehabilitates from a long-term injury and de Ligt struggles to meet the pace of the Premier League after the 3-0 loss to Liverpool at Old Trafford, it is clear Everton were right to keep hold of their star defender.

The 22-year-old is currently nursing an injury also and Sean Dyche will have to wait until the end of September before he is available again [Ben Dinnery], his presence will provide a much-needed boost to the Blues who have conceded 10 goals in their opening three fixtures.

If Branthwaite replicates last season’s performances his valuation will surely skyrocket at the end of the campaign and, any interested party, particularly Manchester United will regret not matching the Toffees’ £70m asking price regardless of public opinion [talkSPORT].

The saga is set to rumble on through the coming months and Everton will need to perform in the Premier League to convince Branthwaite that his future lies at Bramley Moore next season.

In other Everton news, the Blues are ready to hijack Leicester City’s move for Turkey ace Yusuf Yazici.
