Everton are monitoring players in Serie A ahead of the January transfer window after The Friedkin Group (TFG) takeover, Fabrizio Romano says.
Dan Friedkin was said to be ready to make some funds available for the upcoming transfer window [TEAMtalk, 11 December], and Romano has revealed that the new owners will sign reinforcements.
David Orenstein had disclosed that TFG are unlikely to spend big in the coming month [NBC Sports, 22 December], but it looks like they have their eyes on the Italian market.
Speaking on Men In Blazers [24 December], Romano said: “I think it will take some time, some days to assess everything. So, I don’t want to throw out names just for the sake of it. They’re preparing something for the January window and for the summer.
“But now, with new owners, it’s going to be different; the structure and vision they’ll have. It’s going to take some time before they say let’s go for this player. But I’m hearing they will do something in January.
“TFG people know the Serie A market very well. I’m hearing they’re monitoring some players in Serie A. I can’t say more at the moment.”
Everton should use The Friedkin Group connections in Serie A in January
The Toffees are set for a new era under TFG after the departure of Farhad Moshiri, who severely mismanaged the Merseyside outfit.
With their experience at Roma, the Friedkins bring a wealth of knowledge to the Premier League and the Goodison faithful will hope they can use some of their connections in the upcoming transfer window.
Beto is being linked with a move to Inter Milan [Spazio Inter, 16 December], and it wouldn’t be surprising to see the deal go through after the takeover.
Everton will evidently need reinforcements all over the pitch in the coming months, as several players will be out of contract at the end of the season.
For the time being, a number nine should be TFG’s priority, considering the abysmal record the Blues have in front of goal in the current campaign.
Serie A has some robust midfielders and defenders and the Toffees could do with some of them ahead of their move to Bramley-Moore Dock.
It will be interesting to see who the Friedkins have their eyes on in Italy ahead of January.
