Everton “would do anything” to have someone like Matheus Cunha in their team, Dean Ashton says.
The Brazilian has nine goals and three assists for Vitor Pereira’s team in the Premier League this season, and the Toffees could use his abilities at Goodison.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been the Blues’ first choice, but the England international’s contract expires in the coming months, so it remains to be seen what the future holds for him.
Speaking on talkSPORT’s Premier League All Access [24 December], Ashton said: “Everton would do anything to have a player like Cunha in their team that can produce goals from nothing, which he has done already this season.”
Everton need Matheus Cunha in their ranks
The Toffees are in a predicament when it comes to their number nine position, with Beto being linked with an exit from the Merseyside outfit in January [Tuttosport, 24 December].
Armando Broja is another striker at Sean Dyche’s disposal, but the Albanian is on loan at the Blues from Chelsea.
While Calvert-Lewin seems to be over his injury issues, his contract situation isn’t ideal, and the Englishman’s profligacy has been a big issue.
Everton certainly need a Cunha-esque player in their squad who can produce something special out of nothing.
The Toffees have scored the second-fewest goals in the English top flight in the current campaign, so they should strengthen their attack in January.
There will be slim pickings for the Blues in the upcoming transfer window, and getting a player of Cunha’s quality is out of the question.
Things could be different in the summer, though, with potentially renewed financial might at the Merseyside outfit under Dan Friedkin.
In other Everton news, a new sack verdict has been given regarding Dyche after The Friedkin Group takeover.
