'Manager doesn't like him' - Four Lads' Stevie Clifford moots another Rangers exit this summer

Philippe Clement is not a fan of Todd Cantwell and he is likely to leave Rangers this summer, according to Four Lads’ Stevie Clifford.

Speaking to Rangers Review on 22 July, Clifford stated that he’d be surprised not only if the Englishman has a long-term future at Ibrox, but even if he stays at the club beyond this summer.

The 26-year-old has struggled since moving to Glasgow and has constantly been in and out of the team and could follow Connor Golson and James Tavernier along with those who’ve already left including Kemar Roofe, John Lundstram, Borna Barisic and Ryan Jack, out of the door.

Clifford said at 25:23: “I would be surprised if Todd Cantwell had a long-term future at Rangers. I’d be surprised if Todd Cantwell survives past this window. It’s quite obvious that the manager doesn’t like him. I think it’s quite obvious that even in little allocations that they’ve had, he’s not his biggest fan.

“It’s a shame. Todd Cantwell is a guy I like. He is a player I like but he clearly doesn’t fit into what Philippe Clement is trying to do.”

Todd Cantwell had enough time to prove himself at Rangers

Cantwell has had ample opportunity to prove himself at Ibrox but has struggled to consistently perform under different managers.

Since joining the club in January 2023, the 26-year-old has shown flashes of his talent but has failed to maintain a high level of performance over an extended period.

Despite his potential, the English midfielder has been unable to adapt to the demands of the Scottish Premiership and has found himself in and out of the team.

Given the investment Rangers made to bring Cantwell to the club, it is understandable that there is a desire to recoup some of that fee.

With the player seemingly not fitting into Clement’s plans and struggling to meet expectations, it may be in the best interests of both parties for Cantwell to move on this summer.

The Ibrox outfit should aim to sell Cantwell for a reasonable fee that reflects his potential and the investment made, while also allowing the player to find a new club where he can hopefully rediscover his best form.

In other Rangers news, the club are now set to make a bid to seal summer transfer No.7 with James Tavernier’s sale funding it.
