Clement could press button on official Rangers bid to sign £3m goal machine - report

Philippe Clement is now ready to “push the button” on a Rangers move for Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper reported on in its online edition on Monday (22 July) that the Scotland international is once again on the Gers’ radar despite boss Clement opting not to pursue a move back in January.

Shankland is in the final 12 months of his contract at Tynecastle but the Record report says the Jambos could still hold out for “top dollar” with Rangers perhaps needing to find as much as £3million for the 28-year-old.

The Light Blues would need to sell players to balance the books before moving for Shankland.

Rangers move for Lawrence Shankland a no-brainer

It feels like Groundhog Day all over again with this one as barely a day went by in the previous transfer window in January without Rangers being linked with a move for Shankland.

The difference now is, Rangers missed out on the Scottish Premiership to rivals Celtic and you can’t help but wonder if things might have gone a bit differently had Shankland signed on at Ibrox.

Shankland was top scorer in the Scottish Premiership last season with 24 goals and, at the age of 28, is in the prime years of his career.

The old adage says defence win titles and, while there is definitely an element of truth to that, the simple fact is so do goals and Rangers need some quality adding in the final third.

If they could land Shankland for around £3million it could be an outlay that makes all the difference in their bid to land the title. Quite frankly, it’s a no-brainer.
