Premier League referee David Coote ‘filmed snorting white powder’ at Euro 2024
Coote was this week suspended from duty over a separate video.
A video appearing to show Premier League referee David Coote snorting a white powder has emerged, alleged to have been recorded while he was working at Euro 2024.
Footage obtained by The Sun shows a man using a rolled up US bank note to snort the substance in the eight-second clip.
The report claims the video was taken on 6 July, a day after the Euro 2024 quarter-final game between France and Portugal. Coote was part of the refereeing team that day as a support VAR official.
It also reported to have been filmed inside a Uefa-funded hotel room. European football’s governing body has since confirmed it has suspended Coote ‘until further notice.’
A statement said: ‘The UEFA Referees Committee immediately suspended David Coote until further notice on 11 November – in advance of the upcoming round of UEFA matches – when it became aware of his inappropriate behaviour.’
Coote was this week suspended from domestic refereeing duty by the PGMOL [Professional Game Match Officials Ltd] pending a full investigation after a separate video emerged of him making derogatory comments about Liverpool and their former manager Jurgen Klopp.
In the video that went viral on Monday, Coote appeared to call Liverpool ‘s**t’ Klopp a ‘German c**t’ after a match in 2020.
The report from The Sun also claims an anonymous friend of Coote’s has revealed the details of other clips sent to him by the referee, some purporting to have made derogatory marks over Liverpool player Andy Robertson and Everton.
The source told the newspaper: ‘I believe that the FA and the governing body of the referees have to make sure that the sport we all love is protected and being officiated by the right people. My message to David Coote is…there’s help out there.’
They added: ‘The video of him bad-mouthing Klopp didn’t surprise me at all.
‘He said to me Liverpool would definitely not win the Premier League. It just makes me question the kind of people running the Prem. He also described Andy Robertson as a “Scottish p***k”‘.
‘He did say that the worst place to referee was Goodison Park due to the young Scousers screaming, shouting, swearing at him and calling every name under the sun before the games had even started. And he mentioned he hated going to Bournemouth because it was just such a long way away.
‘He did mention about Coventry City versus Oxford United on a Friday night on Sky Sports. He couldn’t really be a****d with this game…the fact that he had to go and referee in front of an empty Ricoh Arena. He said ‘I’m a bit too big for this”.’
The PGMOL are aware of the latest video A statement on Wednesday said: ‘We aware of the allegations and are taking them very seriously.
‘David Coote remains suspended pending a full investigation. David’s welfare continues to be of utmost importance to us and we are committed to providing him with the ongoing necessary support he needs through this period.
‘We are not in a position to comment further at this stage.’
