Jamie Carragher felt it would have been a “miracle” had Tottenham gone in at half-time against Liverpool only trailing by one goal.
Spurs were on the back foot throughout most of their game against Liverpool at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as the game ended in a 6-3 thriller, with Spurs briefly threatening what seemed a near-impossible comeback before the scoreline reflected the Reds’ dominance.
Despite the second half being very end-to-end, Spurs ultimately were punished for another disappointing defensive display.
Speaking at half-time of the clash when Spurs were 3-1 down, Carragher shared his thoughts on the performance Ange Postecoglou’s men put on in the first half of their game against the Merseyside outfit.
“They end up three-v-two, if Tottenham could have got to half-time at 2-1 it would have been a miracle because they’ve been battered first half, and to now themselves two goals down is unbelievable,” he said live on Sky Sports (22 December).
Ange Postecoglou needs to find a way to improve the performance of his Tottenham team
The 2024/25 season so far has been one that Spurs’ fans will likely want to forget as soon as possible.
While they’re still in the top half of the Europa League table and have had the odd few solid outings here and there, the team in general have left a lot to be desired in their recent performances.
This has resulted in the rumour mill turning about the future of the Australian at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium although nothing concrete has yet been reported.
If Ange can’t manage to find a way to turn things around at Spurs and make sure that they play as well as they did in the second half against Liverpool, it could result in curtains for the Australian.
Only time will tell what the future holds but if Tottenham continue playing like they have done over the last month or so, it’s hard to see how they’d even earn any sort of European football by the time the end of the season comes around, which, for a team of Spurs’ calibre, would be a massive failure.
In other Tottenham news, the club and one big-name player are still apart on a new contract agreement.
